This fast paced Emergency Department sees around 60,000 visits per year and is a verified trauma center. The Emergency Dept is in need of a PMHNP Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to care for patients in the psychiatric part of ED.
The ideal Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner is committed to evidence-based patient care, and has a therapeutic, positive approach to improve wait times and patient approach in the Emergency Department. The Psychiatric Emergency Room accommodates patients displaying uncontrolled behavior or experiencing hallucinations, manic episodes, major depression and suicidal thoughts
This Adult Psychiatric, Mental Health Nurse Practitioner will be working with a diverse group of mental health patients who are working to reach optimal levels of psychiatric health.
Responsibilities of the Nurse Practitioner NP Psychiatric Emergency Department:
- Assess the physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs of adult patients
- Guide patients in next steps, treatment services, and patient progress
- Assist Psychiatrists, Emergency Doctors and other Providers in providing behavioral health emergency patients medical/psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and medical screening
- Document all treatments, medications, and changes in EMR
- Evaluate current psychiatric emergency procedures and communicate any issues or problems with the supervising staff
- Participate in available programs to enhance professional improvement and development within self and behavioral health staff
- Prescribe, direct, or administer psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders
- Assist and intervene in psychiatric crisis or emergency situations with appropriate resolutions
- Collaborate with Psychiatric Case Managers to enroll patients in long-term mental health care programs
Requirements for the Nurse Practitioner NP Psychiatric Emergency Department:
- Master’s Degree MSN from an accredited School of Nursing
- Current Licensure as a RN Registered Nurse in the State of New York
- ANCC/AANP Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification
- 5+ years professional nursing experience
- 1+ years of inpatient psychiatric, mental health nursing experience, preferably in Emergency Services
- 1+ years of experience as Board Certified PMHNP
