This continuously expanding hospital is opening a 15+ bed Observation Unit and hiring an experienced Nurse Manager to build an elite nursing staff. The Observation Unit RN Nurse Manager is a transformative leader with demonstrated experiences in protocol development, strategic planning, and, ideally, opening a new inpatient unit.
This Hospital has earned national accreditation by DNV-GL Healthcare for demonstrating its patient safety standards. This Emergency Dept Observation Nurse Manager will not only onboard and train Registered Nurses, Nursing Assistants, and Unit Coordinators but will have the opportunity to create a cost-effective and efficient service line.
The Observation Unit requires a collaborative, positive, and motivational self-starter. Using protocol development experience, budget management experience, strong nursing skills, and interpersonal skills, the RN Manager will optimize day-to-day operations and strategically plan the following steps to address observation patients and LOS.
Responsibilities for the Observation Unit RN Nurse Manager:
24/7 management of daily Observation Unit operations
Hire, train, and onboard 20+ nurses
Mentor and motivate staff with team building and compassionate communication
Report to Assistant Chief Nursing Officer ACNO
Set performance goals and collaborate with Patient Care Coordinators to implement systems to track performance
Act as a model of providing patient-focused and evidence-based care to achieve performance goals
Create an efficient service line to diagnose and treat acute conditions such as Chest pain/acute coronary syndrome, acute congestive heart failure, Asthma/chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, pneumonia, Hyperglycemia/hypoglycemia, and more
Create and manage a fiscal budget to achieve a cost-efficient service line without sacrificing top patient care
Optimize utilization of OU with an expected LOS, appropriate staffing, ongoing monitoring of quality metrics, and focused and defined patient care goals
Meet benchmarks for quality metrics for patients in the OU, including median LOS and appropriate discharge rates
Ensure patient care is delivered following established hospital, State, Federal, and JCAHO, ANA policies, procedures, regulations, ethics, and standards
Requirements for the Observation Unit RN Nurse Manager:
BSN from an accredited Nursing School is required; MSN preferred
Valid Tennessee RN License
3+ years experience in Observation Unit, ED, Critical Care, or related field
3+ years of nursing supervisory/leadership experience
Previous experience with newly started units
BLS/CPR, ACLS required
Ability to take on current and new challenges and responsibilities
Team player, highly motivated and have a “boots on the ground” mentality
