On average, the OR department sees 20 patient cases per day: Ortho, Laparoscopies, Plastics, Urology, and UIN. An ideal Nurse Coordinator/Assistant Nurse Manager will organize patient care plans, including treatment options such as general or specialty surgery.

The Operating Room's clinical nurse coordinator will ensure patients receive the complete range of innovative treatments and minimally invasive surgical options.
Consisting of 6 Operating Rooms and 2 “Smart Rooms,” the Operating Room uses high-tech, voice-activated controls to streamline every motion of the surgical team. The Nurse Coordinator will manage patient cases that call for “Smart OR” technology. Within the case resource planning, the RN Coordinator will ensure the system effectively controls room lighting, table position, pumps, X-ray viewing, and other functions through voice commands.

Responsibilities of the RN Nurse Coordinator- Operating Room, Surgery:
- Assist in 24/7 supervision of 9+ Operating Room RN Staff
- Participate in hiring, training, educating, and mentoring Operating Room RNs
- Collaborate with Nurse Educators to develop educational programs that meet organizational needs such as improvements in clinical outcomes, HCAHPS, financials, nurse turnover, etc
- Support Surgical Services Nurse Manager with room assignments, scheduling staff lunch/breaks, and hiring needs
- Schedule in-service and vendor representation with the Nurse Manager and Clinical Educator for cases
- Manage resource allocation within the 6 OR Rooms and 2 “Smart Rooms,” facilitate patient flow, and ensure quality care and departmental problem solving
- Coordinate 15+ Ortho, Laparoscopies, Plastics, Urology, or UIN patient cases per day
- Report to the RN Manager and carry out strategic goals for the OR department
- Act as a clinical resource implementing the nursing practice model and the nursing process
- Participate in resource planning to advance nursing practice, quality of care, nurse and patient satisfaction
- Maintain updated patient files, medical charts, and health records and collaborate on discharge planning with the healthcare team
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing BSN required; MSN preferred
- Registered Nurse RN license in Virginia
- 2+ years of RN Operating Room or related experience
- BLS/CPR, ACLS certification
- CNOR certification preferred
- 2+ years of proven nurse leadership experience is a plus
