The Nurse Manager will manage 70 staff nurses who are eager to learn and improve patient care. With the support of Patient Care Coordinators, Nursing Educators, and ACNO, Nurse Manager, Cancer Care will achieve high nurse retention and engagement, build a motivated team, and solidify evidence-based oncology processes.
This RN Nurse Manager for Medical Surgical Oncology will work with multiple specialists focused in all cancer treatments including Mammography, BMT, and Radiation. Ranked by US News World and Report as one of the best hospitals in over 5 specialties, the RN Manager Med-Surg Oncology will promote nursing care beyond patient expectations.
Responsibilities of the RN Manager Medical Surgical Oncology, Cancer Care
Oversee Med-Surg Oncology unit daily operations
Report to ACNO to develop goals for the Oncology Med-Surg unit such as staffing stabilization, excellent quality scores and excellent associate feedback scores
24/7 management over 70+ oncology nurses
Hire, train, and onboard energetic oncology nurses
Collaborate with the Med/Surg Nursing Educator to create training programs focused on PCC
Partner with Patient Care Coordinators to build engagement within team
Act as a liaison between ACNO and nursing staff to discuss and promote efficient, effective, safe, and compassionate oncology care
Assess current care plans within oncology unit and implement improvements to solidify treatment processes
Ensure stocked and sterile supplies are received in a timely manner
Manage an operational and fiscal budget to ensure a cost-effective service line while maintaining high-quality care
Create unique patient cancer care plans and assist in treatments such as infusions, biopsies, and surgeries
Work with Chemotherapy Oncology Nurses to make patient transitions between oncology units smooth
Partner with Med-Surg Oncology Case Managers to ensure all care plans and patient statuses are inputted into the EMR
Participate in the Quality Management Program to maintain CoC and ACS accreditation
Ensure compliance with regional, state, and federal regulations throughout oncology floor
Communicate with patients and families kindly during the diagnosis, consultation, and treatment process
Create an understanding of care options such as minimally invasive surgeries, palliative surgeries, and tumor removal
Requirements for the RN Manager Medical Surgical Oncology, Cancer Care
BSN Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required
MSN Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred
Valid RN License Tennessee
4+ years acute care nursing experience with oncology, medical surgical patients
CPR and BLS by AHA required
MEDSURG-BC, CMSRN, OCN or related certifications, a plus!
2+ years experience in nurse leadership/supervisory
CNML, CNL, or NE-BC, a plus!
Knowledge and understanding of different cancer treatments including med-surg and radiation
