Responsibilities of the Wound Ostomy Nurse RN/NP Specialist WOCN:
- Act as a clinical resource for staff and patients on the wound, ostomy, and continence care
- Work with Nurse Educators to develop WOC skills within staff
- Evaluate and monitor 15-20 patients per day
- Partner with patient care teams to create personalized treatment plans
- Perform daily procedures such as splints, casts, etc
- Participate in treatment services such as ostomy surgery
- Counsel patients and families throughout treatment
- Develop community education programs to bring awareness to proper treatment for wound injuries
- Collaborate with the Nursing Quality Committee and implement quality improvement initiatives
- Assist hospital leadership in providing quality service per government guidelines from CMS
- BSN Bachelor’s Degree Required
- Master’s Degree MSN Preferred
- Current RN license in the state of New York
- Current NP license & registration in Acute Care / Family Health / Gerontology preferred
- 4+ years of nursing experience in acute care
- BLS/CPR, ACLS certification
- 2+ years of Wound Ostomy Continence (WOC) experience
- WOCN, WOCN-AP, WCC, or related certification
- DWC, OMS, LLE certifications a plus
