This New Hampshire healthcare system is the newest hospital to integrate the ISO 9001 quality management system with the Medicare hospital standards. A leading provider of healthcare services throughout New Hampshire, the hospital exists to meet the needs of the communities but providing care with integrity, stewardship and continuous improvement.
The medical center is searching for a Chief Information Officer who can manage and evolve the current healthcare information systems used across their multi-site hospital facilities. The Chief IT Officer will provide strategic and operational leadership and guide the future direction of Information Technology and Systems for the health system. The CIO position requires years of successful experience in healthcare information technology and an understanding of the expanding hospital and health system operations.
The Chief Information Officer serves as an integral member of the health system’s senior leadership team. This position is a liason between IT needs and improvements and executive leadership. Within the duties of this position, improving the current information systems and managing a cost-efficient but effective operations budget are among the most important. The overall goal is to ensure all information systems reinforce the hospital as a regional health system for specialized care that consistently provides diagnoses, treatment and support for medical specialties.
Responsibilities for the Hospital Chief Information Officer CIO:
- Oversee the operation of the information technology departments across healthcare system
- Accountable for 24/7 management over 100+ Full Time staff
- Develop and maintain an IT organizational structure designed to meet needs and demands
- Coordinate educational and training programs for healthcare staff to understand and effectively use current information technology and software applications used within the facilities
- Report directly to the President and CEO and function as executive leadership member of hospital
- Consult with C-level personnel on technology-related needs and purchasing decisions
- Evaluate current IT strategic goals and implement a plan that aligns with the hospitals’ goals in information security
- Advance the current security program that protects information assets and patient safety
- Optimize information systems within EHR, HR Management Software
- Leverage current information technology to improve patient access, quality, safety, productivity, efficiency and the overall patient experience
- Standardize appropriate key IT applications throughout all locations in healthcare system
- Assess and identify the most cost effective investment of financial resources toward IT systems, staffing, daily operations, product purchases and/or in-house development activities
- Manage and maintain budgets consisting of $45 million in operations and capital expenditures
Requirements of the Hospital Chief Information Officer CIO:
- Master’s degree in computer science, business administration, or a related field required
- 15+ years experience in healthcare information technology or related field
- 10+ years of healthcare information technology leadership experience
- Prior experience as VP of IT or CIO
- Experience with Cerner, a plus
- Significant experience in data-processing methods and procedures, and computer software systems
- Outstanding interpersonal skills including ability to effectively communicate healthcare professionals such as clinicians
- Knowledge in systems design and development procedures
- Experience in negotiating contracts with vendors, contractors and others in a professional manner that develops business partners
