Leapfrog Grade A Hospital Seeking Collaborative and Motivated Nocturnist

An ideal candidate is motivated and can hit the ground running with available nightly resources. The hospital is a part of a highly recognized network of medical centers that provide patient care teams with the resources needed to create optimal therapeutic care plans.
Voted as one of the Top 100 Performing Hospitals by Thomson Reuters, the facility’s Hospitalist will see 10-30 patients per shift, performing regular rounds, admissions, and cross coverage. The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant Nocturnist / Hospitalist supports the physicians and care teams by taking the initiative in writing needed prescriptions and performing laboratory work, imaging, and EKGs during the night shift.

The Hospitalist will utilize EMR and advanced handoff systems to update day shift care teams to ensure patients receive high-quality care.
Responsibilities of the Nocturnist Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant:
Collaborate with patient care teams and cross cover for 20+ Hospital Medicine patients during the night shift
Assess the physical and psychosocial status of patients using interviews, health history, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies
Evaluate patients at the bedside that have cases involving falls, altered mental status, brain attack, acute chest pain, respiratory distress, or active GI bleeds
Notify in-house nocturnal hospital medicine attends with any questions or concerns
Partner with radiology, covering physicians, and other departments for services needed overnight
Initiate requests and/or perform routine laboratory, radiologic and diagnostic studies
Create nightly therapeutic care plans consistent with primary patient care teams
Conduct nightly multidisciplinary rounds and ensures appropriate and quality care for assigned patients
Initiate discharge planning needs to patients/social workers promptly
Update the handoff system regarding pertinent changes in medical treatment
Follow up overnight “to-do” list and create task lists for the day shift care teams
Requirements for the Nocturnist Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant:
MSN, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse OR Graduate Degree from accredited PA school
Current Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant PA in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Certification as a PA by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
1+ years of Advanced Practice experience in Hospital Medicine, Critical Care/ICU, Emergency Medicine, or related fields
BLS/CPR and ACLS Certifications required
Current federal and state prescriptive authority
DEA License, Massachusets Controlled Substance Registration
Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS), Fundamental Critical Care Support, and Advanced Trauma Life Support
