Responsibilities of the Nocturnist Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant:
- Collaborate with patient care teams and cross cover for 20+ Hospital Medicine patients during the night shift
- Assess the physical and psychosocial status of patients using interviews, health history, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies
- Evaluate patients at the bedside that have cases involving falls, altered mental status, brain attack, acute chest pain, respiratory distress, or active GI bleeds
- Notify in-house nocturnal hospital medicine attends with any questions or concerns
- Partner with radiology, covering physicians, and other departments for services needed overnight
- Initiate requests and/or perform routine laboratory, radiologic and diagnostic studies
- Create nightly therapeutic care plans consistent with primary patient care teams
- Conduct nightly multidisciplinary rounds and ensures appropriate and quality care for assigned patients
- Initiate discharge planning needs to patients/social workers promptly
- Update the handoff system regarding pertinent changes in medical treatment
- Follow up overnight “to-do” list and create task lists for the day shift care teams
- MSN, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse OR Graduate Degree from accredited PA school
- Current Licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant PA in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- Certification as a PA by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- 1+ years of Advanced Practice experience in Hospital Medicine, Critical Care/ICU, Emergency Medicine, or related fields
- BLS/CPR and ACLS Certifications required
- Current federal and state prescriptive authority
- DEA License, Massachusets Controlled Substance Registration
- Emergency Neurological Life Support (ENLS), Fundamental Critical Care Support, and Advanced Trauma Life Support
