An ideal Acute Care Trauma Nurse Practitioner should have strong attention to detail and bring a positive attitude to the Trauma Service team. The Trauma Nurse Practitioner NP will handle high-stress situations swiftly and help the unit team calmly manage problems with critical care patients.
With services Gold-Star designated by The Joint Commission, the Level 1 Trauma Center has a fast-paced environment. The Trauma Nurse Practitioner NP will see 15+ trauma patients per day, both adults and pediatric. This position works strong interdisciplinary team including Trauma Surgeons, Residents, Surgical Technicians, Trauma Nurse, Trauma RNs, Social Workers, and Case Managers.
Responsibilities of theTrauma NP Nurse Practitioner, Acute Care NP:
Oversee Level 1 Trauma service line
Report to Trauma Nurse Manager with unit assessments and patient statuses
Partner with care teams throughout the trauma floors
Collaborate effectively with Nurse Practitioners to complete daily rounding, medication reconciliations, orders, progress notes/tertiary surveys, office/clinic hours, and discharges
Assess, diagnose, and treat 15-20 patients per shift
Complete monthly office hours to assist with follow-ups, preparation of general surgery patients, and Q&A sessions
Create care plans for trauma patients suffering from a variety of acute diagnoses, including physical violence, wounds, strokes, or psychiatric illness
Act as a clinical leader during work schedule and help to facilitate communication with patients and families
Maintain evidence-based care compliance with organizations such as ACS and ASA
Requirements for theTrauma NP Nurse Practitioner, Acute Care NP:
MSN, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
Valid Nurse Practitioner NP Certification in the state of NY
RN Nursing License in New York
2+ years as a Nurse Practitioner
Trauma experience is a MUST
ICU/Critical Care, stroke, and neuroscience nursing experience
BLS/CPR and ACLS Certification
TNCC, TCAR, and PCAR preferred
ENP, CRRN, SCRN, or related certifications preferred
